Broadband noise prediction for aerofoils with a serrated trailing edge based on Amiet’s theory

چکیده

Trailing-edge serrations are used as means to reduce aerofoil broadband self-noise in various industrial applications. However, a reliable prediction of the reduced noise level has not been established date. In this paper, authors suggest that Amiet’s theory can be accurately predict sound radiated from serrated trailing edges. A plausible explanation how classical theory, originally derived non-serrated (straight) edges, also works for edges is provided. Besides, propose directivity correction original model account realistic geometry. The provides significantly improved upstream and downstream directions both baseline edge cases. This study based on wall-resolved large-eddy simulations Joukowski aerofoils with multiple serration geometries different flow conditions.

Computation of Trailing Edge Noise with a Discontinuous Galerkin Method

Trailing edge noise of a semi-infinite, thin, flat plate situated in low Mach number flow is computed in two spatial dimensions. The Acoustic Perturbation Equations (APE), which are employed as governing equations, are discretized via a Discontinuous Galerkin Method (DGM). Results are compared with theory and Finite Difference (FD) computations. Next to the radiated sound field, special attenti...

Statistical Estimation of Turbulent Trailing Edge Noise

A new computational aeroacoustic model suitable for the prediction of turbulent airfoil trailing edge noise is presented. The method (known as the RANS based Statistical Noise Model or RSNM) combines numerically generated, mean turbulence information with a Green’s function for a semi-infinite half-plane to generate a far-field acoustic auto-spectrum. As a preliminary application of the method,...

A broadband noise prediction scheme for low-noise centrifugal blowers

In this paper we outline a semi-empirical procedure for predicting the broadband sound power spectrum radiated by any member of a family of geometrically similar, centrifugal blowers. The prediction scheme is based on the use of a normalized sound power spectrum that is obtained by measuring the sound power radiated by one member of the blower family. In the present instance, a lownoise blower ...

Noise model for serrated trailing edges compared to wind tunnel measurements

A new CFD RANS based method to predict the far field sound pressure emitted from an aerofoil with serrated trailing edge has been developed. The model was validated by comparison to measurements conducted in the Virginia Tech Stability Wind Tunnel. The model predicted 3 dB lower sound pressure levels, but the tendencies for the different configurations were predicted correctly. Therefore the mo...
